Swanny Announces his retirment

7 Jun 2025

After three unforgettable seasons between the sticks, Dan Swan has announced his retirement from football and Bourne Town FC.

After three unforgettable seasons between the sticks, Dan Swan has announced his retirement from football and Bourne Town FC. A fan favourite and dressing room leader, Swanny steps away from the game with 133 appearances, 51 clean sheets, and an incredible 73% win ratio in Wakes colours.

But numbers only tell part of the story. What truly set Dan apart was his character — a passionate, dependable figure who embodied everything this club stands for. On and off the pitch, Swanny has been a shining example of what it means to represent Bourne Town FC.

“Don’t be sad it’s over – be happy it happened.”

Here’s what Dan had to say in his heartfelt retirement message:

“This has not been an easy decision; in fact, the hardest in football I’ve ever had to make, BUT with a heavy heart I’ve chosen to retire from this incredible club where we have achieved great things together, and got the club back to the heights it deserves to be.”

“My decision is solely down to my growing family and my work, and I know with the commitment needed next year at Step 4 football, I will not be able to fully commit the time that’s needed.”

“Pulling on a Bourne Town shirt every week and becoming a part of the club’s history has been a pleasure. I have no doubt it is the best club I’ve ever played for. We’ve had some amazing highs and a few lows. The best has to be the back-to-back promotions, the amazing FA Vase run last season, and a few penalty saves along the way too.”

“Thank you for the support over the last 3 seasons; it has been incredible. I’ve met so many great people along the way that I can now call friends, and that’s definitely down to the ethos of the club from top to bottom.”

“Thank you to everyone behind the scenes at Bourne Town Football Club; without you, it just could not work, and you know who you are – far too many to mention – but these people make this great club what it is today.”

“Thanks to the management team, firstly Steve Wilson and then Mike Goode, whom I played under here, and letting me enjoy and express myself whilst playing, and not to forget all the coaching staff.”

“Lastly, without a doubt, thank you to the incredible Wakes Fans and The Abby Lawn Casuals (TALC) that have sung and cheered with us on the field and in the clubhouse. It’s been a pleasure – the best fans ever!”

“I’ll never be far away. You’ll definitely see me on the terraces as a supporter having a pint or two of Madri! I’ll always be here for this great club.”

Thanks, Swanny

From everyone at Bourne Town FC: Thank you, Swanny. For the saves. For the memories. For being a top bloke. 💜💙
